Overview

Welcome to the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, affectionately known as the Mar Thoma Church.  Tradition holds that St. Thomas, a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, arrived in India in AD 52, establishing our church on the beautiful Malabar coast, known as Kerala today. Our faith is deeply rooted in the Bible, and we proudly maintain our Episcopal heritage and a value-oriented democratic administrative structure.

Our Values

Our Mission

CONSERVE

Preservation of Divine Doctrines

We are entrusted with the sacred duty of preserving the divine doctrines revealed by Jesus Christ and passionately proclaimed by His chosen Apostles. These doctrines are the foundation of our faith, and we commit to safeguarding their purity, ensuring they endure for generations to come.

UPHOLD

Upholding Doctrinal Purity

Upholding Doctrinal PurityWe are dedicated to upholding the purity of these doctrines, resisting any distortion or dilution that might compromise the essence of our faith. Our unwavering commitment to doctrinal integrity guides our actions and teachings.

NUTURE

Nurturing Spirituality

Central to our mission is the nurturing of our members' spiritual lives. We achieve this through the administration of sacraments, each a tangible conduit of divine grace, and through the transformative power of the Word. Our aim is to kindle the spiritual flame within each soul entrusted to our care, fostering a deep and abiding connection with the divine.

GROW

Spreading the Gospel

We recognize our responsibility to fulfill Christ's Great Commission: to make disciples of all nations. We carry out this mission by proclaiming the Gospel message to all the world.

Our Leadership

Our church is blessed with dedicated leaders, including our Metropolitan, Bishops, clergy, and deacons. The Metropolitan serves as the supreme head of our church. We encourage active participation in the life and ministry of the church, as well as cooperation in its general administration.

Currently, we are under the able leadership of thirteen Bishops, with Most Rev. Dr. Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan at the helm as the 22nd Malankara Metropolitan on the Holy Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas. Our church serves 1.6 million people worldwide, guided by 1184 dedicated clergy across thirteen dioceses.

Our headquarters, the SCS Campus, is located in Thiruvalla, Kerala, India, but our influence and adherents span the globe, reaching far beyond our geographical boundaries. Join us as we journey together in faith, love, and community.
