The Voluntary evangelists Association was founded in 1924. The reformation in the church paved the way for the great urge in the minds of people for group prayer and Bible Study. Rev. C.P. Abraham Kassissa initiated the first prayer meeting in Chayal Mar Thoma Church, Ayroor. Later monthly meetings were held. The naming of the association as “Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists’ Association” took place in the annual meeting held at Chayal Church, Ayroor. The meeting was presided over by the Most Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Thoma . Rev. C.P. Philipose Kassissa, Sri. Moothampakkal Kochukunju Upadesi and Sri. Kolakottu C.J. John Upadesi were the Association’s first President, General Secretary and Traveling Secretary respectively. The association started as a fellowship of believers who were willing to work in the vineyard of God without any monitory benefit or any other selfish motive. Out of a need for a spiritual renewal in the church and the realization of the importance of every member of the church to act as a missionary to those around them.
