“You Will Be My Witnesses”

The Voluntary evangelists Association was founded in 1924. The reformation in the church paved the way for the great urge in the minds of people for group prayer and Bible Study. Rev. C.P. Abraham Kassissa initiated the first prayer meeting in Chayal Mar Thoma Church, Ayroor. Later monthly meetings were held. The naming of the association as “Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists’ Association” took place in the annual meeting held at Chayal Church, Ayroor. The meeting was presided over by the Most Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Thoma . Rev. C.P. Philipose Kassissa, Sri. Moothampakkal Kochukunju Upadesi and Sri. Kolakottu C.J. John Upadesi were the Association’s first President, General Secretary and Traveling Secretary respectively. The association started as a fellowship of believers who were willing to work in the vineyard of God without any monitory benefit or any other selfish motive. Out of a need for a spiritual renewal in the church and the realization of the importance of every member of the church to act as a missionary to those around them. This organization, known as the Edavaka Mission at parish level, encourages members to commit to a 7 point program of:

St Thomas Mar Thoma Church Auckland, under the guidance of our then Metropolitan His Grace The Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan officially approved the mission in 2005. To this day, the organization continues to grow, supported by our parishioners. Through this mission, members are reminded of their responsibility to share the Gospel message with others, to actively spread God’s love, grace and mercy, and to be a light to the world. We praise God for the vision, mission and heritage of our forefathers.
